Company History

In 1952 Mike Kedic and Sam Strang began rebuilding power brake boosters on Western Avenue in South Bend, Indiana. Within a few years, they added a spring shop. From these humble beginnings, Power Brake & Spring was born.

In 1973 William Nolan, and his wife Miriam, negotiated the purchase of the business from its founders and on January 1st, 1974 the Nolan Family assumed ownership of the company.  Over the next 10 years, the company added products and services to its offering while still operating out of the original location at 3221 W. Western Avenue.

In early 1985, the family bought an additional building on Western Avenue previously owned by the Jack Frost Company and the Weingarten family.  With this new building, PBS moved the parts operation out of the original building into the newly acquired building.

Around this same time (1985), PBS added a branch store in Goshen, Indiana which was later relocated in Elkhart.  Over the succeeding years, PBS added stores in Rochester, Indiana and Gary, Indiana.

In 2013, PBS moved from the original locations to a new facility on the near northwest side of South Bend and consolidated its parts operation and service shop back into the same building for the first time since 1985.

Over the years Power Brake & Spring expanded its product offering and services to cover nearly all things “Truck Parts”.  In 2003, with the expansion into Gary, Power Brake & Spring began doing business in Gary as PBS Truck Parts.  The change in the name was designed to reflect the extraordinary growth of the company from Power Brake Boosters and Springs to a full line Light, Medium and Heavy Duty Warehouse Distributor of Commercial Vehicle Parts.

Recently, the company adopted the name PBS Truck Parts for all of its operations.  The “PBS” recognizes our rich heritage from humble beginnings while the “Truck Parts” expands the scope of our product and service offering.
